The Mayor of Elmbridge will be performing the official duty of turning on Hersham’s Christmas tree lights at 5.00 on Saturday 14th December; but will arrive in time to meet the winners of Hersham’s best dressed shopper competition!
The coordinators of this year’s festive fun, Hersham Residents Association (HRA), would like to encourage people to wear their fancy dress (or at the very least a crazey Christmas jumper or hat) when they do their shopping on the 14th!!
Those wanting to enter the competition will be judged in a line up at 4.30 outside Waitrose. Prizes will be awarded separately for children and adults for the best Christmas character outfit, the best Christmas hat – and just for adults, the best (most outrageous) Christmas jumper.
The HRA would like to see the Hersham Green shops well used at all times of the year, but Christmas provides a good opportunity to remind everyone to keep supporting the facilities they have locally available. With that in mind a range of other activities have been arranged in the centre on the 14th. There will be carols at 11.00, and from 3.00 there will be a children’s shopping quiz, and a charity raffle for a hamper donated by Waitrose. Mince pies, mulled wine and chestnuts will be available during the afternoon.
In preparation for the Mayor at the Christmas tree, the Twig Singers will be warming things up from 4.15 and will help lead carols around the Christmas tree from 4.45. Mince pieces and other treats will be available at the Watermans Arms. So bring your lanterns, torches and fancy dress if you dare; carol sheets will be provided – and we look forward to seeing you!
